The sound of beach waves slowly entered Elissa’s conscious as she woke up from her slumber. Obviously, Elissa had never seen waves in real life, but the alarm clock in her quarters was equipped with the sound effect, and she found it to be a much more peaceful noise to wake up to than the blaring beep-beep-beep that was typical of most alarm clocks. Auto told her once, about ten years ago as he was putting her to bed, that the waves were on beaches. This, of course led to the next obvious question, “But Auto, what is a beach?”
“A pebbly or sandy shore, especially by the sea.”
“What is the sea?”
